While we sorely miss Gary's presence here at Web 2.0, Conferenza is here and on site for the third year running - after all we had named Web 2.0 Conference of the year in 2005 and given the crowds at this morning's Workshops in the Palace hotel, there's been no waning of enthusiasm for this event.
Rumors of registrations changing hands for $10k, and even the San Francisco-bound traffic jam on Highway 101 this morning, all point to an ever-increasing mania over the next-generation web business - with costs now minimal to launch a new Web-based company and no apparent shortage of ideas.
We also picked Web 2.0 producers John Battelle and Tim O'Reilly / MediaLive as producers of the year - and there's every evidence that CMP's first year running the show has enabled the whole event to scale in many, if not every, direction.
More to come!

Our Web 2.0 picks for Conferenza's Best of 2005 [thanks Gary!]:
CONFERENCE OF THE YEAR: WEB 2.0. Despite over-stuffed rooms and a slight tendency toward the hyperbolic, Web 2.0 was hands-down the most buzz-worthy event of the year. Don’t believe us? Google “Web 2.0 conference,” and wait for the onslaught of links.PRODUCERS OF THE YEAR: John Battelle/Tim O’Reilly/MediaLive, again for Web 2.0. They made generation of the Bubble-like frenzy look easy.
