Today's the deadline for registering for Milken Institute's "State of the State" conference at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
That's understandable, because the conference is next Monday, Oct. 30. We've not attended the one-day event, but readers will know we regard Milken's springtime MilkenGlobal extranvaganza, which grows from strength to strength and marks its 10th year next year. Attendance of the limited enrollment State of the State appears to be a Who's Who list of California companies and agencies.
The program includes sessions delving into issues of illegal immigration, fixing infrastructure, innovation leadership and what's at stake in the November elections, as well as a special panel on envisioning California in the year 2020.
Panelists include California Controller Steve Westly, architect Frank Gehry and Michael Milken, as well as other senior California corporate and financial executives, government officials, scholars and journalists.
